World-class tennis in Midcoast Maine
Our Color Ball Program is designed to help kids fall in love with tennis. Join at any age, starting with Tiny Tots (4-5 year olds), then progressing through Red Ball (6-8 yo), Orange Ball (7-10 yo), Green Ball (9-14 yo), and Yellow Ball (11+ yo). The program incorporates fun games, activities, drills, and point play to develop your child’s tennis skills. High School Tennis (14+ yo) provides an opportunity for the older kids to learn the basics - it’s never too late to start playing!

For players with more tennis experience, we offer Junior Academy (10-14 yo) and Academy (14-18 yo) programs. Advanced skills and techniques are the focus of these programs, and participants are expected to participate in UTR, USTA, and match play events outside of the program.

Midcoast Rec hosts UTR events and USTA events throughout the year. In April each year, Junior Travel Team (9-14 yo) kicks off, providing an opportunity to play matches against other local tennis clubs.
For high schoolers in the Camden, Rockport, Hope, Appleton, Lincolnville area, we recommend looking into the CHRHS tennis program. Contact CHRHS athletics director Jeff Hart for more information.

We recommend signing your child up for the program that matches their age group, even if they are just starting out. Our programs are set up to accommodate all levels while keeping participants grouped by age.

If your child is just starting out with competition, we recommend starting with a UTR matchplay for a fun, low-pressure environment. UTR and USTA tournaments are held at MRC throughout the year and are great options for all levels of players.

UTR stands for Universal Tennis Rating. MRC holds UTR sanctioned matchplay events and tournaments throughout the year, you can find more information on MRC’s UTR Homepage.

USTA is the United States Tennis Association. MRC holds USTA sanctioned junior tournaments throughout the year.
