Youth Hockey

There’s still plenty of youth hockey before the ice season ends!

Amazing fun for all levels!

Sponsored by Camden National Bank, our Learn to Play Hockey program runs 3 times each ice season. The program progresses kids (4-14 yo) through the basics of both skating and hockey. Hockey gear is available to borrow for the season!

For one month only at the beginning of each ice season, new-to-hockey kids ages 5-9 can participate in the Bruins Academy and receive a full set of hockey gear to keep.

Intermediate players ages 5-8 who have completed a Learn to Play program can join our 7U/8U Development Program, where they practice with a team and play in-house scrimmages. Throughout the season, Stick & Puck sessions offer an easy, drop-in opportunity to play more hockey, while Clinics (normally hosted pre-season and during school breaks) offer an opportunity to improve specific skills.

Girls age 11-16 can continue their development through our Girls Hockey Program, which includes practices and scrimmages with other Maine teams.

Advanced players ages 5-8 can join a full-season 7U or 8U Travel Team, featuring the excitement of playing games against teams all over the state. Our team of experienced coaches will assess each child’s readiness for Travel Team. During the season, coaches focus on team play, deepening skills, and character development.

You’ve got questions,
we’ve got answers

  • No, your child does not need any experience in order to participate. Our program teaches skating through exercises and fun game play.

  • Full equipment is required in order to participate in youth hockey programs. We lend out full sets of gear so that you can get your child outfitted without having to pay a ton. We got you!

  • USA Hockey provides your child a $1,000,000 insurance coverage, gives your child a subscription to USA Hockey Magazine, and provides the industry leading training that our coaches and volunteers use.

  • It usually takes about 10 minutes if you have been doing it for a while. If you’re new to this, it can take 20 minutes or longer. We typically recommend arriving at the rink 30 minutes prior to your start time so you can have plenty of time and not feel rushed or stressed. Feel free to find some of our coaches around the rink if you’re ever in doubt. Here’s a link to the USA Hockey Parent Website with a lot of great new parent info. www.usahockey.com/newparents

Fortunately the Midcoast has a whole lot of hockey to enjoy at all phases and stages. Whether at Midcoast Rec, or with our friends at other organizations, or for young players in the summer, the love of the game goes on!
